Photovoltaics (Solar Cells)
National Programme for Photovoltaics
There is an increasing interest for using photovoltaic cells for production of electricity, though the price per produced kWh is still too high for a larger dissemination. The price for the complete system has to be reduced considerably, provided photovoltaic cells should compete with other renewable energy sources.
This is the background for a new supportive programme, which began to operate on the 1st of January 2000 and which preferably aim at purposeful development for building integrated photovoltaic systems.
The subsidy funds amount to an increasing of the effort up to now with 10 million each year from 2000 to 2002. The Danish Energy Agency administrated the funds and the programme is co-ordinated with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
The programme is divided into three areas of initiatives:
- Developing and testing of building integrated photovoltaic solutions
- Demonstration of developed solutions
- Collection of knowledge, evaluation, dissemination of results and information campaigns
Target groups of the programme
In designing the programme the importance is placed in strengthening the development and demonstration of solutions which can be used in the coming phase of dissemination as well as simultaneously strengthening the development of the industry and the employment in the field. The effort is primarily concentrated on the co-operative housing societies and urban renewal societies together with private and public institutions in co-operation with developers, manufactures and the utilities. After the first year the programme will be evaluated and the target groups adjusted if necessary.
Call for project proposals
A part of the programme will be in the form of call for project proposals with various topics. The calls will be announced in the daily newspapers with regular intervals.
For processing the applications a professional committee has been appointed with representatives from the target groups, the Solar Energy Centre and research institutes. The committee is advisory to the Danish Energy Agency.
In connection with the preparation of the proposal and the implementation of the project it is possible to order assistance from experts in the field of photovoltaics.
Gathering of knowledge and evaluation
A systematic registration is made for developed and demonstrated solutions in collaboration with the Danish Building Research Institute, the Centre for Building Planning Systematic, Universities and other institutes in the field.
An evaluation is made for the ongoing larger photovoltaic projects and of the development- and demonstration programme by its ending, in preparation for an estimation of the need for a total strategy in the further effort.
The amount of the subsidy
The subsidies amount follows the Danish Energy Agencies general rules and is calculated individual respectively for the development part and for the demonstration part. For the development part the subsidy is up to 40% and for the non-profit projects it is up to 100%.
For the demonstration part the subsidy can be up to 50% of the costs.
